There was a dog show in town this morning, so I went to check it out, since Yezhi was there with his cousin and her mega-hounds, plus I had to buy a wire to solder a Wiikey to my Wii.
The ticket cost 1.5 Ls. Seems cheap enough, but besides the dogs, there was nothing interesting there – no one announced or explained anything, just a sort of a private get-together with medals handed out directly to the participants.
But the dogs were excellent – of all breeds and sizes, barely fitting in the hall. A real feast for the eyes. I'd have loved to pet them too, but it's probably not really proper – running around and pawing at other people's dogs. So I only hugged Khasan, Yezhi's sister's dog.
The owner is in the background. And Khasan gave me such a hearty lick that even my glasses fogged up
And he liked me so much that he even stood on his hind legs to get a better taste of me
And in the evening we drank tea with university coursemates. First we went to a food joint called “Ukrainska Khatka”, which I had wanted to check out for a long time. The prices are moderate, the cheap fresh-squeezed juice is especially pleasing. The decor is consistent, and the waitress was in national dress, with a national perky attitude, and even seemed to speak with an accent.

At the “Khatka” I had borscht with a pampushka and the house special. The borscht was pretty standard, but a bit overheated. I liked the house special – cold meat with hot sauce and my favorite vegetables on the side. Paid 5 Ls for this and the juice, mostly for the special.
Overall – not bad, quite tasty.
This is probably sad, but besides us, there was no one in the khatka. The crisis, damn it.
Our set lunches have already rolled back to 2 Ls ($4) and even less. True, in the cafe Vecais Draugs, where I also went recently, and where the set lunch is only 1.40, the food is somewhat average, at least it seemed so to me. Although one shouldn't draw conclusions from a single visit.
Kids' corner
We didn't sit in the Khatka for long, went to Vesma to drink tea, since they have a good selection there, and I love tea, and therefore often hang out there. I also like Vesma because the girls there wear nice uniforms, always look great and are polite. Plus amusing big fish in an aquarium. And overall, the service and decor there, although unpretentious, are generally top-notch.
There won't be any pics, because I'm too shy to snap photos of the waitresses. And I feel bad for the fish – can't turn off the flash, my camera is broken.
Here's an icicle instead, a few of which grow outside my window every time during mild frosts. No wonder it's usually cold in my apartment. (Long icicles without a thaw – a sign of heat leaking from the room)
